Sustainable Development Goals

Rebuilt with history, repurposed for the future.

Fokker site: Rebuild and leave some of the historical buildings standing. All according to the Cradle-to-Cradle principle. Nominated for the Plabeka Award in 2015, National Sustainability Award Steel.

We revitalised the site of former aircraft manufacturer Fokker into a sustainable, logistics centre next to Schiphol Airport. For the rebuilding process, we left part of historical buildings standing and reused 97% of the materials on site. This led to nominations in 2015 for a Plabeka Award, the best industrial area and redevelopment project in the Amsterdam metropolitan region. Another important aspect of this project is the integrated area development applied here. We took a holistic approach to the entire project. That is, we did not just look at the buildings but at all relevant aspects. This integral area development means that it has become a site with lots of greenery, water features and recreational opportunities for the people working at the park. The idea behind this is that people feel happier that way.
