In Nieuwegein, on the site of a former office building, Mercedes-Benz Netherlands realised its new headquarters: an iconic and future-proof building of 14,417 m², combining circular construction, innovation and well-being.
The building was designed by OPL Architects and developed by Delta Development in collaboration with VolkerWessels Logistics Development. The starting point was Mercedes-Benz's MeWe office concept, in which individual working ("Me") and cooperation ("We") reinforce each other.
The transformation was realised according to Cradle-to-Cradle principles, using only non-toxic, reusable materials. Reuse instead of demolition and new construction resulted in a CO₂ saving of 9 million tonnes. The building was designed according to the Design for Disassembly concept and fully prepared for adaptation or disassembly in the future.
A central glass atrium with solar panels acts as a meeting place, while green interior walls and gardens provide daylight, healthy air and a pleasant working environment. The building is equipped with a grey water system, CO₂ capture technology and an all-electric energy infrastructure, including 400 charging points for electric transport.
The result is a working environment where sustainability, technology and comfort come together, light, green and fully human-centred.
Reused. Redesigned. Revived.
Mercedes-Benz Netherlands' headquarters is a paragon of circular architecture, built on the values of people, brand and environment.
